Winter Driving
Stay safe and drive carefully this winter.
January is often a month when, due to snow and ice, the roads can become hazardous.
The key to safe driving is to slow down, stopping distances can be up to 10 times longer on icy roads. Gentle manoeuvres and reduced speed are essential.
If you are heading out on a journey it always worth putting some extra warm clothes and coats, a flask of hot water and food in case you become stuck in traffic due to poor weather.
Before you go:
Allow extra time for your journey and plan routes on main roads, which are more likely to be cleared.
Get up 10 minutes early to de-ice your car.
Wear dry, comfortable shoes to prevent slipping on the pedals.
Ensure you have at least a quarter tank of fuel in case of delays.
Clear all windows and wait for the windscreen to fully demist.
If driving an automatic, check for a winter mode or follow manufacturer’s advice for slippery conditions.
