Criminal Use of Bedfordshire’s Roads is in the Spotlight
The Partnership supports the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Operation Spotlight campaign.
The Fatal Five make up the most common offences that endanger road users on a daily basis.
The consequences of breaking these laws can be devastating.
This includes the life changing news that must be delivered to the families.
The Data
Over 1,000 people were killed or seriously injured on Bedfordshire, Cambridge, and Hertfordshire roads in 2024.
Many involved reckless driving, speeding, drink or drugs, mobile phones, or not wearing a seatbelt.
Inappropriate Speed
Camera vans are active throughout Operation Spotlight to catch speeding drivers.
WHO data shows that every 1% increase in average speed increases the risk of a fatal collision by 4%.
Protect your life and those around you. Don't speed.
Mobile Phones
Using a mobile phone while driving can have fatal consequences.
Even if you text with your phone on your lap, the Police have ways to see you.
Motorcycling Safety
Last April, more than one motorcyclist a day was injured across Beds, Cambs, and Herts.
A third of them died or suffered life changing injuries.
Stay safe by wearing the right gear, not speeding, filtering correctly, and looking after your bike.
